The authors of our textbook state that understanding in the environment of cultural diversity can be improved by knowing conversational, gestures and other taboos in various intercultural settings. A conversational taboo is a restriction against some topic in a certain context. In general, a taboo is an implicit prohibition on something (usually against an utterance or behavior) based on a cultural sense that it is excessively repulsive or, perhaps, too sacred to discuss or joke about. These restrictions are present in virtually all societies and they regulate the way people interact with the world around them by prohibiting the use of items considered sacred. Taboos can be verbal or non-verbal.
Part A: What are three examples of prohibitions in your culture? Discuss one prohibited topic, one social taboo, and one food taboo. ( the culture that will be looked into is the West Indian culture Caribbean west indian.
