For this persuasive research project, you will submit a Research Proposal early in the process. The proposal seeks to explain what you plan to research, why, and how. It aims to:
show that the research is valid (makes good scholarly sense);
argue that the research is valuable (will lead to significant knowledge);
communicate your enthusiasm for the project;
demonstrate your plan is workable within the constraints of the assignment.
This is all in order to gain my feedback and approval. All research topics must be approved before proceeding.
Your research proposal will include everything noted in Chapter 19: Planning Research to Evaluating Sources except the working bibliography, or list of potential sources. That will be the next project you do. Beyond that, you will include everything as noted on pages 378 and 379.
In so doing, include the following:
Introduction: In a brief paragraph, state your research idea, explaining why the topic is important and worth researching. Provide any background information that the instructor may need.
Description: Discuss your proposed research topic by identifying the central issue or concern about the topic, indicating the main question that you want to answer through research, listing secondary questions that relate to the main question, stating a working thesis or hypothesis in response to the main question, and explaining the research outcomes that you expect from the study.
Schedule: List class deadlines that are part of the research project as well as deadlines you set for yourself.
Approval Request: Ask for feedback and approval from your professor.
