Waterfall model : It is a step by step sequential design process.It consists of 8 major steps namesly conception, initiation, analysis, design, construction, testing, implementation, and maintenance. Once, a step has been performed the developers cannot go back to any previous step and hence a well defined plan is necessary.
Agile model : It follows an incremental approach instead of a sequential one to overcome the drawbacks of Waterfall. Developer work on small modular project teams and the work is carried out in weekly or monthly sprints. After each spring, the project priorities are evalauted and tests are run to see the working demo and get the customer feedback.

Some organisations like US Department of Defense Software Systems strictly followed the waterfall model because of the strong documentation and concrete approach.
Examples where you can use Agile model : Fast incremental approach which requires client interaction. Being adopted by most of the product based comapnies. Early prototyping is possible which helps them to get customer feedback and enhance their product. Google, Microsoft, Salesforce as well most of the e-commerce startups and giants have adopted the agile methodolgy. Customer feedback and satisfaction being their major goal, rapid prototyping and bug fixes help them the grow better. Snapchat releases its beta after every spring for customers to review and suggest changes and this has largely help boost the revenue and ratings of the product.
