Sleep Study Essay
This sleep study is an optional/extra credit assignment. The assignment is worth 15 points and is due By November 10 at 5:00 pm.
In order to conduct the study, you must honestly meet the two following conditions:
1) Commit to 5 consecutive days of going to bed at the same bedtime (+/- 30 minutes on either side of your intended “target” time)
2) Allow for 7 uninterrupted hours of sleep (in other words, if your “target” bedtime is 11:30 pm, then you allow yourself until 6:30 am). You don’t necessarily have to sleep that entire time (or even stay in bed), but rather simply allow that to be the case.
If you can meet these conditions, you must then submit a 2 page summary of the experience, including the following information:
1) What was your intended target bedtime?
2) What time in actuality did you go to bed?
3) What time did you wake up each day?
4) What if anything did you learn about your “optimal” schedule and amount of sleep?
5) Offer a basic summary, from your perspective, of what you experienced and what if anything you learned from having a more predictable sleep routine.
Please make this appropriate and not weird. Make it interesting, real, and professional to where it’s informative. You don’t have to actually spend 5 days doing this. But think of what it would be like had you had done it.
