Responses

I just need three responses written for these three posts made by other students, these responses do need to be substantive and not too many outside sources should be included.
Post #1:
ADHD is one of the most common childhood disorders, data reveal that between 3% and 7% of U.S children have some form of ADHD. The prevalence of ADHD increased by about 35% just eight years ago, and is still on the rise. I believe that today, if the child even shows some signs of attention deficit, that child will go get checked out. This will lead to an overdiagnosis of children who actually don’t have ADHD. Doctors will mistake developmental problems such as language delays for ADHD. In today’s society, our medical care keeps advancing in more efficient ways to easily diagnose and help a patient get better with medication. A child shouldn’t receive a diagnosis of ADHD unless the core symptoms of ADHD start early in life and create significant problems at home and at school. Treatments for ADHD in children include medications, behavior therapy, counseling and education services. These treatments can relieve many of the symptoms of ADHD, but they don’t cure it. From kindergarten to eighth grade, children from each racial/ethnic minority group were significantly less likely to receive an ADHD diagnosis than whites.

Post #2:
Learning disabilities come in a wide assortment and their affects vary from person to person. According to the Learning Disabilities Association of Ottawa-Carleton, disabilities involving language processing can lead to memory problems and difficulty with reading and writing.(1) This also means they may take more time to process information, have a hard time maintaining relationships, lack of social cue reading ability and a lack of impulse control.(1) In my school we had a program for kids with learning disabilities. Having this program it allowed the students to have a more focused, one on one instruction that focused on the individual instead of the class as a whole. So I think that we have a program in every school to help give these kids the best opportunity possible but if the teacher and parents feel that the child is ready then they should be weaned into mainstream classes as they develop their skills. According to Walters State, we can help our kids by giving them an advanced notice of an assignment, help them to narrow their topic, encourage the student to be more act and ask “why, what, how” questions, we can also allow students to record the lesson for later reference. Post #3:
Great post! Having a learning disability like the ones you mentioned can definitely be frustrating especially when many of your peers may not be experiencing the same struggles. What are some of the pros and cons of putting students with a learning disability in a mainstream classroom?
