Research Project

Put forward a research proposal that would either partly or entirely use Quantitative methods.

This research proposal should include what a typical social science research design would: (1) an introduction; (2) a literature review; (3) an original social science research question; (4) one or several hypothesis (at least one); and (5) an outline of which specific quantitative method(s) would be used to test this hypothesis, how, and why.

Quantitative methods that you could use include: § Significance test for a mean; § Significance test for a proportion; § Comparison of two means; § Comparison of two proportions; § Chi-squared test of statistical association; § Simple linear regression analysis; or § Multiple linear regression analysis.

Please note that you are not required to actually carry out the research. Should you wish to use this project as a launching pad for other work (e.g. for another undergraduate class, for eventual graduate work, or other), you are of course welcome to try your hand at collecting the data, running the appropriate tests, and submitting your results as part of your paper. I will be glad to look at them and provide you with feedback – but I will not award extra credit. Ultimately, the goal of this exercise is to see how well you can construct a quantitative methods-based research proposal and whether you would know which methods to use to carry out said research on your own.

The citation style you employ is irrelevant to me, so long as you actually provide citations for the works mentioned / used in your paper. Per the University’s language policy, you can submit your work in either English or French.
