Research Paper for American History
CURRENTLY DO NOT HAVE A THESIS, IT WILL BE FOR YOU TO DECIDE
For the research question, essentially ask yourself a question about American history from 1877-2008. Anything you want, then attempt to answer the question with your thesis statement.
So how to start? What interests you, What is your major, what is something that you are interested in historically. This could be anything comics, pop culture, sports, politics, advocacy, race, religions, military conflicts, cia missions, or movies. Anything really can be researched and placed within a larger narrative about the world.
For example,
You could be curious how sports free agency developed. Look at Oscar Robinson sued the NBA in the 1970s as president of the players union.
So a research question might be.
How was the battle over free agency indicative of a larger labor battles of the 1960s and 1970s in the NBA?
“Insert thesis claiming xyz”
Or what was the impact of the culture wars of the 1980s?
The Culture wars of the 1980s led to moral panics such as the Satanic Panic which led the imprisonment of the West Memphis three, a heightening of the war in drugs with Nancy Reagan just say no campaign, and the forcing of “parental advisory” notices on forms of popular entertainment.
