Review the food equity article/link posted in Canvas. Identify two factors that the authors used to assess food equity. State your assigned city and identify one organization in your assigned city that is working towards addressing food equity issues. Discuss how their efforts might improve food equity. (Four sentences maximum)
Define a food desert in your own words. Provide one numerical statistic that relates to food deserts in your assigned city. Discuss three negative health outcomes that can result from food deserts. (Four sentences maximum)
Identify and name one major transportation corridor in your assigned city. Discuss three potential health effects from living adjacent to the identified transportation corridor. Discuss three techniques other than an increased use of electric cars that could reduce health impacts to residents living in transportation corridors. Support the three techniques with three separate credible references. (Seven sentences maximum)
Discuss the demographics of your assigned city with numerical statistics for race, education, and income. A site such as census.gov or similar may provide a starting point for exploring these numbers. Which characteristic (race, education, or income) is most likely to be associated with an environmental justice issue in your assigned city and why? Pick only one. (Five sentences maximum)
Read the petroleum perspectives module and view the links related to refineries. How does petroleum refining in Nigeria differ from refining in America? Define the roles of individual citizens, corporate citizens, and regulatory agencies as they relate to the refining process in the United States or in Nigeria. (Six sentences maximum)
Haiku is a Japanese form of poetry that typically uses three lines. The first line has five syllables, the second line has seven syllables, and the third line has five syllables. Develop your own haiku as it relates to your assigned city. Use an environmental theme from this course or consider open spaces, parks, or natural elements in your assigned city as your inspiration. (Three lines maximum with syllable counts as described; 5/7/5). Note: your haiku does not need a title.
