My essay will be Police Brutality in the state of Georgia, because I am from Atlanta Georgia and this will be an argumentative essay. Please do not use Georgia from another country because somebody did on my last essay and I had to redo it before I turned it iin.
CONTEXT: Your boss was so impressed with your research that she has now asked you to prepare an argument about the issue! You will write a short position paper about the issue that you researched for the last essay. You’ll be expected to present this work at a roundtable at the conference, so you must think about any possible counterarguments—any possible questions that might come from your knowledgeable audience. Finally, your writing must be clear and persuasive, and your research must be credible and up to date.
GENRE: For this 4-5-page essay, you will craft your own argument in response to an issue in your discipline. An effective argument expresses a clear claim and offers support for the claim while also carefully considering the claims of others, even those in opposition. Through the use of thorough support and a persuasive tone, you will hope to convince others to consider your argument with seriousness.
PURPOSE: Now that you have learned a little about a specific issue in your career field, you will continue down this path by stating your informed opinion on the issue. By creating your own argument, you will enter into a conversation about the issue—much as you would in your academic discipline, your career, or even in a simple life conversation. This essay asks you to state your own claim, find and incorporate research for support, and use persuasive language and organization in your writing.
APPROACH: You will continue work from your last essay by using at least three outside sources to help you state your argument on that issue. You could be proposing a solution to a problem, or you might just be agreeing or disagreeing with perspectives on an issue. The great news is: you have already done some research, and you can use the sources (and even the writing!) from your last essay. You will just need to add one more source, and you need to think carefully about what that source should be (what are the missing parts of your essay?). You specifically want to think about counterarguments, or opposing viewpoints. You’ll want to include support that considers at least two sides of the issue; by looking at different perspectives, you will have a well-rounded outlook on the issue and can then decide what your position is. Once you decide on what support you need to add, then you’ll conduct further research through GALILEO. You’ll incorporate evidence from your sources to support your own ideas.
AUDIENCE: Write for the conference audience, assuming that they have some knowledge of the field and issue. This means that you will not need to provide too much background on the issue and instead focus on current opinions about it. In response, you will also craft and formulate your own argument.
PART TWO: The Reflection Letter
For the second part of essay one, you will be reflecting on your essay and process in a brief letter to yourself. Review the Learning Outcomes below and reflect on which one you believe you best fulfilled and why/how. Then reflect on which one you feel like you struggled with the most and why/how. This should written like a narrative letter, wherein you’re reflecting on your process and what you learned.
