Week 2 Midterm Essay
Below are the instructions and film choices for the midterm essay assignment. It is due WEDNESDAY of Week 2. You will submit the assignment using the link on the Week 2 main page.
Midterm Essays are due on Wednesday of Week 2 by 11:59 p.m. ET.
This is a formal essay and should be formatted according to APA guidelines. Review the APA Format link if you need assistance in creating a title page, headers, citations, or a References page. You do not need to include an abstract.
Write a 1000-word (minimum) essay addressing one of the topics described below. You must meet the minimum word count to get full credit.
Your essays must include quotes from each text used to get full credit. Be sure to quote, cite, and reference from the text(s) using appropriate APA format.
You can obtain additional writing help by reviewing the material in the Essay Tutorial link (click on “Start Here” and then “Course Resources”) or the Keiser Online Writing Lab (OWL).
Save your essay as Microsoft Word document, and identify your work by using your last name in the file name (example: LastnameMidterm.docx). Upload it by clicking on the “Midterm Essay”link below as an attachment.

Consider the film you watched for week 1 (Cinema Paradiso, City of God, A Hijacking, The Bicycle Thief, or A Passage to India). Identify the theme of the story and explore the political and/or social issues that affect the story. How do these issues affect the characters and influence the theme?
Your essay must identify a theme in the thesis statement (as the last sentence in the introductory paragraph). Remember, there can be more than one theme, but you will choose one that will become the focus of your essay.
Use this structure for your thesis:
