Depending on the area served and hazards being faced, departments will have the resources to respond. For example, if the department provides protection for an airport, they will have specialized apparatus and proximity gear for the protection of personnel. What are the main hazards seen within your area? What resources are needed to mitigate them?

As discussed in this unit, there are five different classifications of fire. Which classification do you feel is seen the most by fire protection crews? What around you in your home or professional setting would lead to one of these fires? Explain your reasoning/selection.

Within each community, there are buildings of varying construction types. Take a picture of a building within your community and post it with explanation of what your thoughts would be if it was on fire. Have you had a unique building incident? If so, describe the incident and how it was handled. If not, describe how you think a fire might be handled in your home or office.

What position(s) did you have within the structure?
