The research paper should examine the following:
1) Introduction: briefly summarize the ideology / idea you selected; Why is this theme important to the study of public administration?
2) Using journal research and books, discuss at least 3-4 additional aspects of the ideology / idea that extend what is covered in the course
3) Analyze the ideology / idea from a public administration perspective; how does it relate to the public sphere and what we are covering on governments and systems of administration?
4) Concluding statements – summarize your research paper and major points Students should begin this project early in the semester to ensure that it is properly researched and written.
The paper should be 13-14 double-spaced pages (no more or less). Paper sections: all students MUST have the following four sections (use these headings in the actual paper) in their papers outlined in bold and underlined: Section: Approximate Length of Section (double-spaced):
◊ Introduction – 1 page;
◊ Extending the text – 6 pages;
◊ Critical analysis — 6 pages
◊ Concluding statements – ½ page;
References/citations: Students may use APA, the APSA, or another manual style for this assignment – as long as you are consistent and provide full citations and references. Students MUST use references to cite the concepts and materials they are drawing upon to write their papers. It is your choice whether you want to use the parentheses method (author, date, page), footnotes, or endnotes – just make sure you are consistent and thorough. Students must use 5 or more professional, academic sources to write their papers. Academic and professional sources can be refereed journal publications and books. NO non-academic (or non-refereed) Internet sources, magazines, or newspaper articles can be used.
Other Guidelines:
◊ Use 12 pt. font in New Times Roman.
◊ Margins should be 1 inch on all sides.
◊ Be sure to use full sentences and correct spelling.
◊ One page should be a title page with your name, title of the paper, and course number. This is in addition to the length requirement. The paper must be 13-14 pages double spaced, no longer or shorter.
◊ At no point in your writing should phrases like “I think”, or “In my opinion” appear. This is an analysis paper
