Find out how the “family support programs” (if any) have helped them in raising their child/children. Extensive discussion will be held in class to help you to write the report. After you finish interviewing the family member/s (your friend), discuss with your group members and examine the influence of families and communities on children’s all round development. Also examine how these families benefit from the support program offered by school and community. PURPOSE: The purpose of the interview is to complete Assignment III. The purpose of the interview is to get firsthand information about the family, understand the diversity of families existing in today’s world, understand the perspectives of parents/families, recognize the problems and challenges parents/families face and learn how to nurture reciprocal communication with parents/families. During the time while you will be interviewing the family, talking, listening and exchanging ideas; you may like to take notes. You must make sure from the beginning that you have their consent to take notes while listening. You must let the family members/parents know that the interview is confidential. The information obtained will only be used for academic purposes and their identity will not be revealed at any time to anyone. 18 Visit the family, and interview a family/responsible family member/parent when it is mutually convenient. Allow at least an hour for the interview so that you can have time to establish rapport with the family/family member/parent so that none of you should feel rushed. If you have not interviewed anyone before, it will be wise to practice interview with your friend prior to the actual interview with a family/parent. Remember that feelings are temporary; be ready to accept change/s in their feelings. 8. Try to see the world through speaker’s eyes: be aware of verbal and non-verbal expressions/messages.
