Positive youth development (PYD) is one approach that aims to leverage out-of-school activities and support positive development for adolescents and communities. After reviewing the information provided on PYD at https://youth.gov/youth-topics/positive-youth-development and other course materials on PYD posted in D2L, choose one program to further investigate and report back on in your post using connections back to concepts from the course. You can choose a program from the list on the website (see Other Resources on this Topic and choose Programs), or choose a program in your local community that meets the aims of PYD.
1. List the program name, the organization(s) that provide the program, what area or community the program is offered in, and website address.
2. Provide a brief summary (not just copied text from the website) of the program including:
a. Program philosophy and goals
b. How does this program fit into the following taxonomies from Chapter 8: type, organization, and purpose.
c. What developmental skills or competencies does the program aim to impact for adolescents?
d. Does the website share any information about dosage (as presented in Chapter 8)?
3. Which of the 5 C’s of PYD are addressed based on the program’s information?
4. Would you recommend this program to families with adolescents? Why/why not? If so, who specifically do you feel might benefit from this type of program?
