Written Critique Guideline
1. Use a sense of composition!!!!

2. Analyze each dance on its strengths and weaknesses considering the following:
a. Choreography
b. use of space, time and energy
c. note different qualities of movement
d. performer’s ability
e. costuming
f. lighting/scenery/props
g. music, sound score, text, or use of silence
h. dramatic aspects

3. Within the paper include the name, date, place, and time of the venue

4. Be totally Honest!!! You do not need to pad your evaluation to make a favorable impression. All dance performances are not perfect, nor do you need to like every dance performance that you see. Do not write only subjective unsupported statements. Your personal impressions are important but you need to support them with intelligent observations acquired throughout the course of the class to balance, justify and lend validity to your analysis. After you have determined your feelings about a particular aspect of a dance and have written it, ask yourself “Why” and then write the “because” answer.

5. I am interested in how the things that you have read in the text, lecture, discussions boards and seen in the videos, influences your thinking on dance. Do you look at dance differently now or are your views still the same and why???
