Biopsychosocial paper

The file below contains case material to use for your biospsychosocial assessment paper. Based on the material, write a 4-6 page paper that includes your assessment of the family and identified client, Karen, and an intervention or treatment plan. Please be sure to have at least 5 reference sources to support your assessment/treatment plan.

Karen is an 8 year old girl currently in the 2nd grade. She is a biracial child whose mother, Janet, is African-American and whose father, Aaron, is White. Karen lives with her parents and her siblings.

Karen’s parents have been married for nine years. This marriage is the second for Aaron. He has two girls, Jessica and Jenny from that prior relationship. Jessica is 11 and Jenny is 13. Karen also has a younger brother, Aaron, Jr., who is six years old. Aaron, Jr. was born prematurely after a difficult pregnancy. He occasionally has tantrums which upset Karen. They all live together in a house in Gentilly.

Karen was retained in the first grade due to poor academic performance. She says it was because sometimes she didn’t hear what the teacher was saying but nobody believed her. Karen’s mother, Janet, revealed late in her pregnancy that she had occasionally drank wine and beer to deal with feelings of depression. Last year, Karen expressed suicide ideation to the social worker and was briefly hospitalized. When asked about her family relationships, she said she sometimes “feels invisible” and that she doesn’t like being bullied by her older step sisters and sometimes by kids at school.

Karen’s mother, Janet, works part-time as a paraprofessional and goes to school part-time at the local community college. Occasionally, she likes to visit casinos which her husband frequently complains about stating that “that’s why we can’t save any money.” Karen’s mother is somewhat involved with her grandchildren, taking them with her to church on Sundays.

Karen’s father, Aaron, is a veteran of the Marine Corps. He saw combat in Afghanistan and has been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder. He is on probation for a DUI but claims not to have an alcohol problem. Occasionally, Janet and Aaron argue loudly at home about money and how the kids should be raised. On one occasion, the police were called by a neighbor and Aaron was almost arrested. Aaron likes to ride motorcycles and hang out with his former military buddies.

Karen has been referred for social work services by her teacher due to continuing academic and behavioral concerns such as isolation and occasional bouts of crying.
