You will write a six-to-eight page paper (not including the cover page, large pictures, bibliography, etc.) on the life and work of a well-known mathematician. The subject of your paper must be approved by the instructor. You will be responsible for a rough draft and a final draft. The paper must be typed, double-spaced, and use APA for citations. At least three credible sources must be used (not including our textbook), at least one of which must be a non-Internet source (i.e., a book). Your paper must discuss the mathematician’s life, work, and influence. It must also contain the explanation of at least one mathematical proof (which you understand, and which you haven’t seen before) relating to your mathematician. Turnitin.com: You will upload a PDF of your rough draft and final paper to turnitin.com (through Canvas). You may not resubmit a paper or part of a paper from another class (like Senior Seminar), nor may you resubmit your previous paper if you are repeating this course. I expect you to write a completely new paper. Remember: one of the goals of this assignment is to explain some mathematics to your audience. It is not enough to just restate the explanations from your sources. You know how explanations in textbooks leave out a lot of the details, it is your job to fill in the missing details.
