Read the following and the Instruction PDF. put your writing in the format document. Must have 2 sources, 1 film, 1 novel. you can use extra sources if you need them. work cited does not count towards the writing words. I also uploaded my previous work. it’s not the same instruction, but you must read and watch first, in order to answer the prompt. 1) Read the novel Perfume: The Story of a Murderer by Patrick Süskind. 2) Watch the 2006 feature film Perfume: The Story of a Murderer, directed by Tom Tykwer. 2) Select ONLY THREE prompts from the list below and respond to them in short essay form. (You can do short essays for each prompt; it doesn’t ALL have to be one essay, but ONE Works Cited page at the very end of the full assignment is okay.) Remember: you do not need to answer ALL the prompts. Please include the selected writing prompt number in your essay before each response. PROMPT 1: How well does this film adaptation stand on its own? Is it necessary or helpful to have read the novel to understand the film? Conversely, how did watching the film affect your understanding of the novel? What would you add/delete/change about the film to better interpret the novel? PROMPT 2: Reflect on any scenes or events described in the novel that were substantially altered, added, or omitted in the filmed adaptation. Then answer: Why did the filmmakers make these changes? What are the effects of the changes? PROMPT 3: Evaluate the tone created in the movie. Cite clear examples of color, texture, visual images, editing, sound, and music that may have contributed to the tone of any particular scene(s). Compare the tone created in the film to the tone created in the novel using the same scene(s). Cite specific examples as you reflect on how the filmmakers’ discursive choices influenced the tonal experience of the film. PROMPT 4: Ideas are the reasons stories are told. Themes are the major ideas in a story; however, most stories contain other ideas as well. Some adapted films change the ideas presented in the work of literature from which they were adapted. Pay close attention to theme and other ideas in both the written version and in the movie and write about how they were changed, emphasized, or deemphasized. Do you notice any significant thematic changes between the two versions? Evaluate these changes. PROMPT 5: Which told the story better, the novel or the movie? Often a story will seem to be deprived of beauty or meaning by the changes made in a film adaptation. On other occasions, watching a filmed version will enrich the experience of the written story. Offer your views on the quality of the story told by the movie as compared to the novel. Justify your opinion with direct references to both the film and the written work. Think about how you would adapt this story for film. What choices or changes would you make in your own adaptation of the story? Why?
