Step One: Choose ONE of the questions below to research and write about. You can use these questions as a guide if you would like to research a slightly different media-related question that covers a topic we have discussed this semester that is more interesting to you. However, if you decide to choose a question NOT on this list, you MUST get permission from me. If you submit an assignment with a question that is not on this list and did not first get permission from me, you will earn a zero on the assignment. The research question cannot be a yes or no answer.
Step Two: Research your topic. You should use at least ONE reading from the course and TWO from outside research. Remember to follow the information we have learned this semester about finding credible and current research. Use the library databases, google scholar, or credible sources you find on a general search engine). You will likely find A LOT of information about your topic as they are all very popular topics in Media Research, but you will need to decide how you would like narrow your research. You will write about three different “findings” – so that would be a good place to start.
Step Three: Write your paper. Here you will tell us, in a formal written paper, what you found in your research of the question you chose to investigate. You will divide your findings into three headings (which will be your findings) and include an introduction and conclusion. For example, your paper should be formatted as follows:
Introduction — Tell us what we can expect in this paper. Give us a brief summary of the topic, a thesis statement, and state the question you researched. For example: The question used to guide this study is “How does the digital divide impact society?”
Finding One—Tell us one finding and support with research. For example if my question is “How does the digital divide impact society?” – this section will describe, with research, one way the digital divide has impacted society. This is a research-based paper, so your own ideas without the support of research will not be sufficient.
Finding Two—Tell us one finding and support with research. For example if my question is “How does the digital divide impact society?” – this section will describe, with research, one way the digital divide has impacted society. This is a research-based paper, so your own ideas without the support of research will not be sufficient.
Finding Three—Tell us one finding and support with research. For example if my question is “How does the digital divide impact society?” – this section will describe, with research, one way the digital divide has impacted society. This is a research-based paper, so your own ideas without the support of research will not be sufficient.
Reflection/Conclusion – Reflect on what you found and provide a conclusion that reviews your three findings.
