Research Paper draft (Immigration)

The topic that I picked is Immigration here in United States (Which my point is that they should be more flexible with people that wants to get into United States and have a normal life here if they pay their taxes, work and everything else.) Research Paper Elements of Structure

Introduction and Background: Introduce the topic by providing some background for your audience who may not be familiar with the topic. Provide a contextual history of the issue, including support, if relevant from a critical article. Cite some examples of the issue. Convince the audience that the topic is important and worthwhile. Next, provide a more specific and detailed discussion introducing your writer’s position.
Writer’s Position and Development: After having introduced the topic, you can now logically state your position on the issue and provide your thesis or claim to help lead the audience toward your next step, which is to develop your claim into subcategories in the body of the paper.

Body: The body is the main part of your paper where you have broken down the issues into categories. For a paper this length, you will probably have 3 main points. Within each point, provide enough evidence and support from critical articles and reliable sources, and from your own original analysis to convince the reader that your claim is valid. Beware of fallacies (see the list of fallacies in Lesson 4). Use your own outline from A2 for this section.

Counter-Argument: Because your topic is debatable, there will always be alternative perspectives. Discuss one or two of these (include a critical article from an opposing point of view) so that you can show the reader that you have come to your conclusion in a carefully argued, logical and ethical manner.

Visual Text: You must include at least two visual texts. These can be any image related to your topic, charts, graphs or cartoons.

You must use evidence from at least 4 sources as support for your argument:

Do not use the following sources as they are too generalized for the specific topic and thesis you have chosen.

Dictionaries (online or in print)
Encyclopedias (online or in print)
Wikipedia
Study guides
Papers written by other students (online or in print)

Format:

You must include a Works Cited Page with your research paper. DO NOT submit this as a separate document; the Works Cited page belongs at the end of your paper.
ALL assignments must be submitted in proper MLA format.

Length

This paper should be approximately 5-7 pages in length, not including the Works Cited page. The outline should not be included as a part of your research paper.
