Silver Lining’s recap
Witty, engaging, and romantic: the movie Silver Lining, starring Bradey Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence, capture the audiences with comedic lines combined with dramas and challenges people can relate to;yet, knowing that happy ending awaits those who face challenges with a positive attitude. Pat, played by Cooper, was a history substitute teacher, who was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and recently released by a mental institute, and now lived with his parents. Pat was known to have a mood swing, anger outburst and that nearly cost him when he assaulted the man his wife was having an affair with. After his wife had left him, he was determined to win her back by conforming himself to her liking and focus on Excelsior, or Pat would say look for a silver lining, positive outlook, when challenges arise. While Pat was trying to change himself he met a girl named Tiffany, played by Jennifer Lawrence, who was going through depression after her husband had died from a car accident. Both connected instantly by talking about their mental illness and the drugs that were prescribed to them. Tiffany fell for Pat at first sight but he did not feel the same way in return. Knowing Pat still loved his ex-wife, Tiffany lied to Pat by saying she would give NIkki, Pat’s ex-wife, a letter from Pat in exchange he would learn to dance and enter a dance competition, to which Pat agreed. Dancing lessons with Tiffany changed Pat. It made him more disciplined over his anger outburst and mood swing. Meanwhile, Tiffany had found herself a man who she can finally trust and forget about her husband. The movie foreshadowed Pat’s feelings for Tiffany when his parents would degrade Tiffany describing her as unstable and others calling her name Pat would defend Tiffany, saying she’s intelligent, beautiful, etc. The movie’s highlight comes when Pat and Tiffany have to get a five or better at the dance competition and the Philadelphia Eagles football team beat the Dallas Cowboys to ensure Pat’s father would lose all of his money on a bet, money meant for opening a restaurant. Pat knowing the stake at hand decides to not dance until he later finds out his ex-wife was gonna be there. At same time, Pat found out Tiffany had been lying to him about the delivery of the letter and the return letter was forged by Tiffany. Yet they both danced at the competition and managed to get a score of five. After the dance competition Pat gave a letter to Tiffany, he wrote “ I love you. I knew it the minute I met you. I’m sorry it took so long to catch up. I just got stuck.” This quote signifies the meaning behind the movie, while Pat is trying to look for a silver lining by forcing himself to change who he is so that his wife would come back to him. In front of him was a woman that has loved him for he is now. Both Pat and Tiffany found that silver lining in each other. They are no longer in depression and are much happier together.
