M4: Discussion – Appearance and Weight Discrimination – Discussion Group 9
1 unread reply.
ATTENTION STUDENTS REPEATING THIS COURSE: Some or all of the questions may have changed for this discussion board.
For this Discussion, you will work with members of your assigned group.
Read the article “Appearance and Weight Discrimination in the Workplace” (pages 244-254 in your textbook) and thoroughly answer the questions below. Be sure to use your own words when answering these questions.
IMPORTANT: Retype the questions in your initial post, followed by your answers.
Questions to be answered:
Under federal law, employers can discriminate on the basis of appearance except in three instances. (Minimum 150 words) (5 pts)
Please list the three exceptions AND give an example of each.
What criteria would need to be established to be able to legally discriminate in terms of any of these protected characteristics?
What are the pros and cons of an airline implementing a policy that larger customers need to buy a second seat? List pros and cons for the airlines as well and pros and cons for passengers. (Minimum 200 words) (7 pts)
What can organizations do to counteract the high costs of employees who are obese? (Minimum 100 words) (3 pts)
NOTE: Initial Post to be submitted by 11:30 pm on the designated due date (5 pts)
Make your initial post, using a minimum of 450 words. Retype and then carefully answer each question. Post your answers into the discussion board – do not attach it as a file or document. Your initial post should be submitted by the designated due date.
Then respond to three posts made by embers of your group in a professional and timely manner, while using critical thinking skills and your senior-level abilities. Each response post must be at least 100 words and all response posts must be submitted by 11:30 pm on the final Saturday of the Module. Please indicate whose post you are responding to; you are expected to choose different members to respond to in each module.
Make sure your response posts are different – simply copying your posts will result in points taken off. You may choose to agree or disagree with the other person’s post, but you are expected to justify your response. One response should be to someone you agree with and the other should be to someone you disagree with. The better and the more thorough the discussion between you and your classmates, the higher your grade will be.
In this senior-level course, you are expected to use critical thinking skills, as well as professional grammar and spelling. Recheck your work before posting – the better and more thorough the discussion between you and your classmates, the higher your grade will be.
The Performance Dashboard shows when you create your thread and response posts. If you post at the very last minute, it will be apparent that you are rushing.
Remember to use your own words!
